In which everyone is sick… Including me!

This photo of Jordan says it all. Yesterday she started wheezing. Alexis started running a fever, and Brandon’s nose began running. I had been feeling achy for several days, At three in the morning I could hear Jordan struggling to breathe on the baby monitor I keep in her room.

I had to go in and wake her up to give her a breathing treatment. Shortly after she woke up, Brandon did too. I never did get to go back to sleep. We went to the doctor’s office this morning, which I had been trying to avoid at all costs because everyone knows it is like writing an active child a personal invitation to misbehave. Thankfully they actually behaved because they were too sick to create much chaos.

The nurse swabbed the children’s noses for the flu virus, and Alexis’ test came back positive, but Jordan’s was negative. The doctor put all three kids on Tamiflu. Our insurance did not cover Brandon’s prescription (which REALLY ticked me off). We finally got home and everyone is sick and extremely cranky. At least I now know why I have been feeling so achy and tired lately. I am not able to go to the doctor’s office for myself because they do not have appointments until Monday. I' will just deal with it. Moms are made out of tough stuff.

Rice Rice Baby/Questions Session 14

My POTD just makes me giggle. Brandon's new favorite food is rice. He would eat it morning, noon, and night if I let him. The only problem with this is that he makes a humongous mess. If you do not believe me, just look at the photo below.



He does not just eat the rice, he wears it as well. Apparently it is a new fashion accessory. LOL He is lucky he is cute, because I can not tell you how long all of that sticky mess takes to clean up!

In other news, Jane gave me a blog award on her blog. I really appreciate it! She is such a sweet person, and a very talented digital scrapper!

Questions are Back! Questions Session 14

Question One: What do you do after a mistake? Do you fess up and apologize? Or just ignore the situation and hope it goes away?


I hate making mistakes, and I hate admitting that I have made a mistake even more. I always have a hard time swallowing my pride and admitting that I was wrong. This makes my husband crazy! He says... "Come on say it!" "You were wrrrrroooonng!" LOL Aggravating man. The funniest thing is that Alexis is exactly the same way. If we are caught out on a mistake, we both will grudgingly apologize.

Question Two: If you were a flower, you would be a ________? Why?

If I were a flower I would be a wildflower. Something hardy that grows anywhere with little water or sustenance. I would be a survivor. No roses or frilly flowers for me.

That is all for today. All three kids are sick, and I got them a doctor's appointment for tomorrow. It never fails, every time they are off of school on vacation, one or all of them get sick! Wish me luck in bringing them to the doctor's office and getting them out of there without them picking up another illness!

So cool!

A good friend of mine Leah, has decided to start designing digital scrapbooking supplies. I was so excited when I heard, because she has such an eye for design and beauty in her layouts that I knew her products would be fabulous! I was very impressed when I got my hands on her paper pack called Shades of Grey. It has beautiful textures and subtle patterns. It was very easy to scrap with! Here is the layout I made with it.

Happy Mardi Gras!

Today is Mardi Gras day, and because Ronnie works downtown, he could not go to work. The parades pass right in front of where he works, and they block off the streets. We have had a lovely day at home together. Ronnie helped me clean the house this morning. I dusted and he vacuumed. I hate vacuuming, so it works out. I started a roast in the crock pot early this morning, which gave us all time to play together.

The weather was very nice, so we spent a large portion of the day outside. We played in the sandbox. The kids drove their power wheel car, and Ronnie played baseball with them. I got some really cute photos. The one below is my POTD for today. It is also my new desktop background. All of the people I love in the same shot. =0)

Here are a few other cute shots. I LOVE the one where all of the kids piled into the power wheel.

Jordan picked me some flowers. I love this shot as well. She looks like she’s deep in thought.

And last but not least here is Bubs. He stole all of the balls he could hold.

I hate how brown and yucky the grass is in these photos even though I boosted the saturation to try to compensate for it. Ugh. I can not wait for Spring! Alexis suddenly started feeling bad after we ate dinner, so she is laying in front of the television vegging out. She has a fever of 101, and I think she is coming down with the same cold I had.

I have some semi-good news about Lady. The oncologist called and said that we have three options. The first one is to have her undergo radiation, but she has so many health problems that it would probably do more harm than help. The second option was to have her go back under anesthesia to remove a larger portion of skin where the tumor was. Again, not the greatest option because of her previous illnesses. The third option, and the one we plan to take, is to watch and see if the tumors return. If they do we will have them do surgery again.

The reason we are not consenting to do another surgery right now is that I am afraid that she would not make it through it. The good news is that the cells they analyzed from the tumors are not the quick spreading type, and they more than likely got it all out during the first surgery. Please continue praying for her that the tumors do not return! I really appreciate all of the positive thoughts and prayers that everyone has sent her way. Lady does too!

In other news, I have had people tell me that they liked the questions and want me to continue! So tomorrow… new questions! =0)

Photo and Layout Sharing

I have been a bit under the weather for the past couple of days. I missed posting yesterday's photo. It is of Lady and Brandon playing outside together. I have been making a conscious effort to take more photos of Lady just in case. I really liked this one. It was late in the afternoon, so the shadows are harsh. It is just too cold in the mornings to let them play outside when the lighting is good.



All three kids are home today, and for the rest of the week. They have an entire week off for Mardi Gras holidays which I find a bit ridiculous personally. I can understand Monday and Tuesday, because traffic is impossible otherwise. In another month they have a week off for Easter. I do not remember having that much time off of school growing up. Maybe I am just jealous? LOL Here they are after breakfast choosing a book to read off of their bookshelf in the living room. I really encourage them to read as much as they want to. When I saw the three of them together, and the light pouring through the window, I rushed to grab my camera.



It has been a while since I shared layouts, so I am going to post a few. The reason why I have not been posting them is because the mouse that I had that attached to my laptop was not working correctly, and I can not stand using the little touch pad on the laptop to copy and paste the links. LOL As always you can click on the layouts to make them open in a new window!

I have been scrapping up a storm to complete the challenges at Scrapperie. Here is one I did a week ago.

POTD 2-21-09 Luck of the Irish

Some people have all of the luck! You know the type of person I mean. Money just falls in their lap, and things fall into place for them without much fuss. My husband is one of those people. He has had things given to him  all of his life. From his family, to people he remotely knows at work. Two years ago someone even gave him a truck. Now, it’s happened again.

This morning we went to pick up a 1995 Chevy truck that the same person gave him. That is TWO different trucks from the same person. I asked Ronnie why the guy gave him the first truck. I mean, this is not even a person that he is close friends with, just an acquaintance. He said that it was because the guy knew he was fascinated with cars, and would take care of them.

We ended up giving the first truck to another friend after keeping it for a year. When Brandon was born, it was just too much to keep moving three vehicles around in the driveway. Now, a few years later, I still have my awesome minivan (that I am NEVER selling), and he has a 2008 Dodge Truck. This morning we added a Chevy Silverado to our collection.

He is outside, happy as a clam, scrubbing it down, and playing with it. It is an automatic, which means I can drive it. Technically I could drive the big standard truck he has in an emergency, but I hate driving standards. I already borrowed the new (to us) truck to run to the library today. It drives really well. Jordan has named it Parry (pronounced Pah-Rhee) Alexander. She names every vehicle. The big white truck is named Truckie. LOL

The funny thing is that this truck fits Ronnie’s personality perfectly. He is a redneck, and this Chevrolet is a redneck truck. I was singing his favorite song to him out in the yard while he was cleaning it, and he had to laugh. He is such a country boy.

On another note, you have probably noticed a bunch of changes around my blog lately! I discovered that my laptop that I have had about a year is compatible with Windows Live Writer, which means I can write entire blog posts the way I want to. In any font, with tons of photos, and videos, and lots of fun stuff. This is my current favorite font, but please by all means tell me if you find it too hard to read, and I will find another one.

POTD 2-20-09 Mardi Gras Mambo

Today’s POTD is of Jordan’s hands holding the bunch of beads she and Alexis brought home from school today. Alexis’ class was asked to be in the parade at school, and like a sweet girl she threw her sister half of the beads she had. They have been playing with them all afternoon.

The photo was edited with the Vivid 2 Coffee Shop Action. I played around with the settings after I ran it though. Here are some more photos of them in their Mardi Gras finery. Alexis is missing her top two front teeth, and looks so cute.

J0rdan put all of the beads around her neck, and I started laughing because she looked like Mr. T. Then I started getting her to say, “I pity the fool….” It was priceless.

We do not go to the Mardi Gras parades, so the celebration at their school is all the celebration that we participate in. The last parade I went to in 2001 was so awful with people fighting over beads and trinkets like they were gold instead of cheap plastic. Since then we have not been back. Jordan is so sensitive to loud noises that it probably would not be a good idea anyway.

I am still upset about Lady, but I have decided to take it a day at a time, and just see what happens instead of borrowing trouble ahead of time. Thank you so much to everyone who has prayed for her, or has listened to me whining, you know who you all are. Thank you!

I have got to go cook dinner, so I will leave you with a video of my favorite Mardi Gras song. It has been my favorite ever since I was a little girl. I love Mardi Gras music, just not the parades. LOL

Update on Lady

I got a phone call this morning from the veterinarian. The two tumors that they removed were malignant tumors. She has stage 2 cancer. She could have as little as 200 days left to live. We are consulting an oncologist, and will be getting x-rays done so we can see how far the cancer has progressed. I am devastated, but even more worried about how she is, and how my kids will take her failing health.

Ronnie and I have decided that we will not make her suffer though chemo. We want her to have the highest quality of life possible, and then when she starts suffering, then we will have her put to sleep. I will be spending as much time with her as I can, and I plan to take as many photos of her as she will tolerate. Please pray for her, and for our family. I will never underestimate the power of prayer, so who knows, maybe we will get a miracle.

Photo of the Day Update

I have to catch up on the POTD's. I am so very far behind! The first one is of Brandon enjoying a spaghetti dinner. That kid loves spaghetti more than anyone I have ever seen. He loves eating it, almost as much as wearing it. He makes such a mess that we take his shirt off before he eats. It makes clean up that much simpler. He is still cute even when he is coated with spaghetti sauce.



The second photo is from yesterday, and was edited with a super neat Coffee Shop action that removes every color but blue from your photo. I thought it would be super cute with his car pajamas, and take away some of the brightness and clutter of all of the toys in the background. He was offering to share his sippy cup with me. He is so sweet!



Today's photo could count as a pathway photo for the photo challenge, but I have another idea in mind for that. Brandon was mad that he was behind the baby gate while I took my shower this morning so he kept throwing toys out of the gate at the bathroom. He has got a pretty good aim with those blocks! One almost ended up in the tub with me. Crazy kid!

Kiss A Crab-Catch Light Experiment

Here is my POTD from yesterday. Ronnie ran to the store, and came home with fresh boiled crabs. No one else was willing to put in the time to shell them, so I did. Jordan was fascinated with the crab, which surprised me because sensory-wise she is usually quite sensitive to creepy crawlie things. Here she is kissing her crab, she kept saying "I want to kiss it again!" It was really funny, so of course I had to run and grab my camera.



Here is the POTD for today! I was experimenting with catching light in Alexis' eyes. I like how this one turned out. She is not sad, just not grinning like a silly girl. I asked her to tell me about her day and just snapped away while she was talking. This is what I got. She was excited to watch me edit it with photoshop and take away her scratch on her nose. She had to check in the mirror to see if her real scratch had disappeared. If only it really worked that way! I would be photoshopping the goodness out of myself. LOL No more wrinkles here!



I am hoping to get back to posting questions soon, but things are nuts here as usual, so hopefully tomorrow. I have a ton of prep work for a class on Saturday. I am not going to be around as much!

POTD 2-14-09 Romantic Dinner for Five

First, I want to say thank you to everyone who has been praying for Lady. I brought her back to the veterinarian this morning because she was bleeding from her stomach. He checked her and said everything was okay. Of course I am a nervous wreck even though he says it is all "normal". If you ask me, nothing about any of this is normal. The whole fiasco ended up costing six hundred and five dollars. As my friend Leah pointed out, I must admit that God was watching over her and us because if we would not have gotten our tax return in when we did, there was no way we could have afforded it at all.

She is doing much better today, but is still not herself. The pain pills are making her very groggy, and I have tried to keep the kids from disturbing her. I really appreciate everyone who asked about her. (Thanks Agnes!)

I would like to wish everyone Happy Valentines Day. Whether you think it is commercial or not, it is still a reminder to tell your partner that you love them, which is always a good thing! Ronnie watched the kids and the dog so I could take a much needed break and go to the spa. I got my hair done, and it came out okay. I also got my eyebrows done, and do not even want to talk about how those came out! OMG! I will just fix them tomorrow. LOL Ronnie also told me that he ordered the tripod I have been drooling over, but it did not get here in time. I did not care, I am just excited at the thought of getting to use the timer to set up shots on my camera. Who knows? Maybe I will even get in a photo or two now that something else will be holding the camera! LOL

Here is my POTD. It is the card I made Ronnie, with a lit candle, and heart confetti sprinkled across the table. We did not get a romantic dinner in the traditional sense. Ronnie picked up Applebees so I could relax, and spend time with the kids. We ate as a family, with our romantic confetti by candle light. Not exactly high romance, but not too shabby either.



Last but not least, I have a layout to share. It reminds me that even when things are bad like they have been lately, life is still beautiful, and I have a lot to be thankful for. As always you can click on the layout to have it open in a larger window with a full description.

POTD 2-12-09 and 2-13-09 Thankful

I got at call at five o'clock that I could come pick up Lady. I was so excited. At seven she was awake. She is resting right now. I am sitting up checking on her every five minutes like a nervous Mommy. She was and always will be my first baby. The doctor told me that the actual lump on her stomach was fat and tissue that had come through the herniated space, and twisted. The tissue had died and was extremely infected. If it would have went untreated she would have died. Thank God I insisted that we not wait on the surgery. I had a feeling that something was really wrong.

She did have two lumps on her skin that we had been thinking were just skin irritations, but while she was asleep the doctor decided to go ahead and remove them since they were growing larger. They were even deeper than she thought, and were true tumors, and not just irritated skin. She removed them entirely, but we will have to wait on testing to determine what they were. I am so scared. Like I said before, she has been through so much already with her epilepsy, arthritis, and allergies. Poor baby! Please, please keep her in your prayers. She needs them!

I would like to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to the staff of the General Animal Hospital in Covington, La. They stayed way past closing time to do her surgery. Two hours above and beyond normal work hours. They were amazing, and so considerate. This is the photo I took while I was waiting outside for Lady, when I realized that most of the day had passed without me getting a photo of the day.



I have to bring her back to the doctor in the morning. I have to say that I have never believed that Friday the thirteenth was a bad luck day, but I can seriously say that everything that could possibly go wrong today did. On the way to the veterinarian's office my windshield wipers stopped working IN A RAINSTORM! Everything that happened with Lady today was awful, and while I was visiting my friend this morning one of her girls fell off of the couch and ended up with a concussion. Then I got a note in the mail that Jordan has nineteen unexcused absences from school and will not be able to move up to the next grade. So that is something I have to sort out on Monday. (They are excused absences, they just have not kept track of them properly.)

Here is my photo of the day from 1-12-09! We made cupcakes for Jordan's class. She demanded that they be pink cupcakes with pink icing, and in all of the chaos I got them made. She was extremely happy with them, which made it all worth while.

Spare A Prayer

The reason I have been missing...



I have not been around because my dog Lady Belle Buttercup has been sick. She has had a hernia ever since she was spayed years ago. It was a small hernia and she has had it forever. All of the sudden yesterday she developed a huge swelling there. It looked and felt like a golf ball under her skin. I took her to the vet today, and they are doing surgery on her as I type this. (I am trying to distract myself, I am going nuts worrying.) They said that it is either her intestines pushed through the hernia, or she has a tumor that has pushed through. She already has arthritis, allergies, and epilepsy. I'm not sure how much the poor dear can take. I am all cried out now so I am just praying, and I would appreciate any prayers for her!

POTD 2-11-09 Good Enough to Eat

I love coffee. Everyone who knows me even the slightest bit knows that. There is something to be said for a man who walks a mile in the rain to a gourmet coffee store to get his wife coffee beans as an early Valentines Day present. He knows that I would rather have the gourmet coffee, than a dozen roses. Sure, it did not cost as much as the roses would have, and not many women would be gaga over a bag of coffee beans. I am though, and the fact that he knows that just melts my heart.

My POTD today consists of my new coffee beans, in one of my favorite coffee cups that he bought me years ago. It is Mike from Monsters Incorporated, and it makes me giggle every time I see it. Thank you Leah, for the inspiration to take this photo! I changed it to Sepia because the green cup was a bit glaring in the photo.



Today, I am staying home! Brandon and I are lounging around in our pajamas being total slackers. Days like this make me truly happy down to my soul! A rest and restoration day. I am watching a movie, and later I plan to scrapbook. Since the girls are at school Brandon is enjoying playing with all of the toys without having to squabble or share. He is pretty content too.

POTD 2-10-09 I hate the rain!

This photo was taken extremely early in the morning, from a moving car, in a rainstorm. The overcast sky in combination with my early morning wake up time, made me feel really tired this morning. It was psychiatrist appointment day again for Alexis. I always schedule her appointments super early because if you get there after eight o'clock, you sit there half the day.

When I woke up it was drizzling, and by the time I had to get the kids into the car, it was storming. Not good. Everyone was wet and cranky by the time we got there, and believe me when I tell you it did not get much better! So this photo reflects my mood today.



After we dropped the girls at school, Brandon and I ran errands. We got Lexie's medicine, filled the van up with gas, then went to the store to buy him MORE pajamas. He has grown out of his 4T sized pajamas. (He is not even two yet.) They are above his little ankles and it looks like he is waiting for a flood. LOL Poor tall Bubs!

POTD 2-9-09/Contest Entry/Questions Session 14

This morning Jordan had therapy at our area hospital. I took a photo while we were outside waiting for her. To make it a bit more interesting I edited it using Coffee Shop's Urban Vivid Action... her actions are amazing! This is the end product after all of the editing!



I also got a few minutes to make a layout for the awesome Story Matters blog! I loved their topic this time around, to scrap what you struggle with. Here is the layout that I came up with. Questions Session 14

Question 1: How did you feel about school growing up?

I actually enjoyed school for the most part. I developed a hatred for math at an early age though. LOL I never had a hard time learning, and I made good grades easily as long as it was not Math! I think my problems started in fifth grade when I was struggling to pick up multiplication, and the teacher pointed out that it was taking me too long, in front of everyone. I just shut down. I am a perfectionist, and when I know I am not going to be good at something, I tend to avoid it. My favorite part of school was choir. I took choir for three years, and it was my favorite class. French class was a close second though. I wish I could remember more of it than I do now.

Question 2: Did you belong to Boy/Girl scouts, Camp Fire Girls or 4-H?

I belonged to 4-H for a short while in High school. When it started interfering with choir rehearsals I had to drop out of it. Now when I want to play with goats, or chickens, I just visit my grandparents house. They have a mini-menagerie which I believe is why the children love visiting them so much. It is almost like going to a petting zoo! LOL

POTD 2-7-09 and 2-8-09

Sorry I have been so insanely busy girls! I am dropping off my photos of the day, and then running to take a shower and go to bed. It has been a most exhausting (but fun) weekend. On Saturday I taught two classes at Scrappersaurus and we had a wonderful time. I taught a "Healing from the Hurricanes" workshop, and a Tim Holtz Distress layout class. I did not get home until after six o'clock. I hurried up and fed the kids, then cleaned up the house a bit. At the last minute I remembered I needed a POTD and I tried snapping some photos of the moon, but they did not come out right. So I took a photo of my lovely green computer, and matching mouse. It is one of my favorite things in the world. The computer and the fact that it has wireless internet!!! Did I mention that green is my favorite color?



Today I finished catching up on laundry, and washing two loads of dishes. I chased the kids around all day, and caught up on a few things online. I still had a bunch of email to go through, but I decided that it was warm enough to take the kids outside. So instead of being responsible, we went out to play! I got some really funny photos of Brandon. He figured out how to climb up the slide and go down. I sat down a few feet away from the bottom of the slide and just snapped away! This is my favorite one, so I chose it for the photo of the day.



This one runs a close second, and just makes me laugh out loud every time I see it.

POTD 2-6-09 You've Come A Long Way Baby

Here is today's POTD. I am very proud to say that this is straight out of the camera, with no editing done. What you can not tell in this photo, is that she is sitting next to the window in my bedroom, on my husband's nightstand so I could get the "perfect" light. She was a more than willing subject now that she is feeling one hundred percent better.



When I loaded this photo off of my memory card, I was struck by the grown up look she has to her now. I remember my chubby baby faced girl, and let me tell you, she is growing up entirely too fast. I am not going to post questions today. Instead I am posting a look back at how far Jordan has come.

Here is Little Miss Jordan with her apnea monitor and oxygen on. She looked like a little monkey clinging on Ronnie. She's about 3 months old here. Right around the time we brought her home from the hospital.



Here she is tucked into her fish swing... She loved that thing! The wires for her apnea monitor and oxygen would slap back and forth. She slept through it all.



As Jordan got older she liked her apnea monitor less and less, and used to try to get it off. She is about 6 months old in this picture.



For Christmas 2004, Alexis got a plastic shopping basket. Jordan was 7 months old and so tiny that she fit right into it. She kept giggling because she thought it was so much fun.



Here she is at around 9 months old. She still had her oxygen, and her trusty Elmo. On this day we had been working on tummy time, and she passed out in the middle of it.



Here Jordan is at 1 year old. This is the first walker she had, a Kaye walker. She graduated to a bigger walker after this one before learning to walk on her own at 2 years old.



This is Jordan practicing standing unsupported. One of the first times she was successful. We were ecstatic. She was about 18 months old here.



Yes, I know I am a sentimental Momma. Thank you if you made it this far down and survived all of my bragging on my beautiful baby girl. I can not believe she will turn five in April. Where has all of the time gone?

POTD 2-5-09 and The Little Helper

My POTD today is the front page in the book that Becky Fleck sent me because I helped her test those templates. I thought that it would be neat to share because she autographed it for me. Thanks again Becky!



Jordan is still home sick today, but she is starting to get some of her energy back. This morning she insisted on helping unload the silverware from the dishwasher. She kept looking back at me and asking if she was my little helper. Of course I had to grab the camera and take a few photos! She is a very efficient little helper.



The next photo is for the Photo Challenge Forum. The topic this week was "Dinner". These are my super bright and super cute shatterproof cups that we use all of the time. I love them. Not just because they are shatterproof, but because they are so fun and funky as well. They even have frosty retro prints on the outside if you look carefully. =0)



I have been working on challenge pages for the Fantastic February contest at Scrapperie. Here are a few of the things I have made so far. My favorite is the Valentines card I made for Ronnie. As always you can click on them to make them bigger.
