Baby Did A Bad Bad Thing

I’m back to reveal the rest of the design team layouts that I did with September’s Scraptastic Club kit! As you know from my previous post, I received the super cute My Minds Eye Alphabet Soup for Girls kit. Here are my creations!

I made one about my girls coloring with chalk on my front porch.

Journaling: I had the prettiest porch on our street after the girls drew on it!

I made the flowers on my Cricut. Then I layered them with the chipboard ones from the kit and curled the edges of the petals. The brads were my favorite part of this kit. The designs were just too cute. I used them on every layout and still had more left over even after I ran out of paper!

I also created this layout as a response to the bullying Jordan’s been experiencing at school lately.

I wanted to remind Jordan not to take the other little girls' words to heart. I used lyrics to the song "Beautiful" from Christina Aguilera.

Journaling: "You are beautiful. No matter what they say. Words can't bring you down." -Christina Aguilera.

Jordan, I know it hurts your heart when the kids at school pick on you. I just want you to know that you are amazing, beautiful, and fabulous! Don't take their words to heart.

Last but not least, I’d like to share this layout.

This layout was supposed to be design team work too! I worked on it off and on all day yesterday. I started adhering things right before the girls got home, and then realized I wanted to spray a little Maya mist on the background paper. So I masked off a portion of the layout, and took out my Maya mist. Then the bus came.

When I came back to my scrap desk a few hours later this is what I found. Jojo had busted the child lock off of my door, grabbed my Maya mist, and had "bixed" my layout. “Isn't it pretty?!”, She asked. I said “Oh my goodness!” but in the end, I couldn't be too mad at her. Especially since I'd already done 3 layouts with the kit. I'll have to chalk it up to me learning that she can now get through the child lock on my door. I'm putting this LO as is in my album with a note that says Jordan helped here. LOL It's much funnier today, than it was yesterday!

Journaling: I called Daddy and asked him if we could bake cupcakes. He said, "Yes!" 7/2008 Bobo, Bubba + Jojo.

In other news, all three of my kids are sick too. Alexis has been having issues with her OCD, and has pulled out every last one of her eyelashes! She now has a staph infection on her eye where one of the pores got infected. I will spare you photos, let’s just say it’s not pretty. I’m incredibly worried about her. We will be discussing it with her psychiatrist. When I asked her why she did it she said, “I don’t know". I don’t even know what to think. Say prayers for my girl if you’ve got a spare minute. She needs them.

Jordan told me she had a sore throat this morning, but I totally think she played me because she wanted to stay home. The doctor didn’t find anything wrong with her. Sigh. I’m such a sucker when it comes to that kid. I worry about her health so much that anytime she whines I freak out. She got a free day out of school today. She certainly isn’t acting sick.

Brandon has a totally awful sinus and ear infection. I have the exact same thing, but I haven’t been to the doctor yet. (Yes, I made my kids go but I didn’t. I’m SO mean right?) Brandon hasn’t slept in 3 days. He’s so congested. That means I haven’t slept either. Other than the few snatches of sleep that I got in between comforting him. So it’s totally wild at my house. No scrapbooking for me. You know I’m sick if I say that.

I haven’t been posting much of our everyday life on the blog lately. I just feel like life is streaming by so quickly, but nothing really interesting is happening. I hate constantly posting the bad things that happen, so I don’t! Nobody likes a whiner right? LOL I promise, I’ll try to do a better job of remembering that I started this blog to document life.

Speaking of that, here’s a conversation Jordan and I had today…

Jordan: Jeez Mom! You look awful today.

Me: (Sarcastically) Thanks baby. I don’t feel really well.

Jordan: You aren’t going to die or anything are you?

Me: (Smiling) No, I’m not planning on it.

Jordan: (Seriously) Well. You know Mom, no one PLANS these things.

Me: (Speechless because I couldn’t stop laughing. This child is something else!)

Animal Instinct

Today I’ve been really sick, and all I accomplished was taking a nap! Yesterday, I was more productive! I finished this layout for my Scraptastic Club design team assignment. I received the super cute My Mind’s Eye Alphabet Soup for Girls paper and embellishments.

It is SUCH a cute kit! I squealed like a girl when I opened it and saw all of the gorgeous papers. When I saw that the brad package had a zebra brad, I knew exactly which photos I wanted to scrap with it. Here is my first layout!

Journaling: On our visit to Global Wildlife last April, I wasn't sure who was wilder. My kids or the animals? I think the animals were pretty domesticated. Their table manners may have been better than my kids'. Isn't that scary?

To get the brads through the chipboard flowers I used my hole punch. I had to hammer the goodness out of it to make a hole in them, but I like how they ended up so it was worth all of the work!

Keep It Movin’

I have at least two blog posts planned so I’ve got to keep it moving and get all of these published! First up is my reveal featuring the fabulous August Scraptastic Club Kit that Jessica sent me for my design team assignment. It features Crate Paper Static papers and embellies. I was so excited when I opened the package because I knew exactly which photos I wanted to use!

This is the first layout I made!

Journaling: Kim + I took the boys to the park when the girls went back to school. After a Summer of playing with the girls you know they were happy to do boy things like dig and get dirty! 3/2009 Brandon + Julien

*This layout is based on a sketch/digital template that I created for Ideas for Scrapbookers. It will be posted over there next Tuesday! (Don’t worry! I’ll remind you all to go get it!)

The only thing that didn't come with the Scraptastic Club kit is the small cream alpha.

To create the guitar embellishment I layered the flourish, wings, guitar, and a star from the die cut sheet. I even used the chipboard sheet that Jessica sent me on the layout by matting the stars on it and cutting out around them for a grungy boy look. (See detailed view below for a better look!)

Because I create my own designs for design team layouts in Photoshop Elements, it’s really easy to create sketches and digital templates out of what I make for my own use. For the next layout, this is the sketch I came up with. You can right click and save it if you would like to use it as a sketch. (If you want the digital template scroll down!)

Journaling: We drove to Biloxi, MS to spend the day at the beach. 8/2009

After I made these two layouts I still had plenty of extras from the kit. I’ve been in dire need of boy themed birthday cards, so I created some! Here’s the first one…

I used some of the leftover die cuts as accents. I thought the drum sticks and the guitar pick worked well with the theme of the card.

The inside sentiment says...

"I hope you break out all of your smooth moves at your birthday party!"

This is the second card… I cut the surfboard die cut in half and placed it on either side of the ribbon to make it appear a bit bigger. The brown part of the card is actually thin chipboard. I inked everything to add definition. My son already tried to walk off with this one so I'll probably make it his birthday card next year!

Just wanted to say Happy Birthday Dude!

Quiet Time to Play

Things have gotten a lot calmer since the girls went back to school. Brandon and I don’t get into too much trouble together. It has been raining every day for a week now so visits to the park or playground have been out. Instead we are thanking our lucky stars that we have a covered carport. Even though it’s raining we can still go out there and play as long as there is no lightning.

Brandon has only recently learned how to blow bubbles. He is completely and utterly involved in it. You can see how hard he’s concentrating!

He is such a happy boy!

Another day this week I sent him outside with a popsicle. I refuse to let him eat them in the house because of the mess they make. (Especially the red ones!) I don’t know why, but I love this photo so much!

This one is pretty cute too! He’s still my baby boy even though he’s getting bigger and more independent. He breaks my heart when he comes up and says “Wub you Momma”.

You would think that with all of the extra time I’ve had on my hands that I would be scrapbooking like crazy. Not really! For some reason, I’ve decided to Spring clean my house in the Fall. It really needs it! During the Summer it’s hard for me to keep up with everything with all three kids here. Some things fall by the wayside. Things like wiping walls, dusting ceilings, and vacuuming under things. I’ve been taking a room a day and scrubbing the daylights out of it.

I’m also planning to make some home décor improvements around here, but that’s probably another blog post! My bedroom needs a makeover badly! We just bought a new mattress, and I want new sheets and curtains. I also want to repaint the room. We’ve repainted all of the other rooms in our house since we moved in. Our bedroom walls are still the same original color and they are beat up! I’m thinking a nice green color. Something relaxing! I’ll keep you all posted on that.

I did do a few layouts since the last time I shared. One of them even won the sketch challenge at Ally Scraps! Whoo hoo!

Journaling: We nicknamed you "Cookie" for a reason. When you were a baby, every time your Dad came home from work you would say "Cookie?". When he did bring them home, you would smile your cute little smile and turn those dimples on full force! As you've gotten older, nothing has changed! You are still a cookie monster. Aug. 2008

I had to make my own banner for a challenge. I'm trying to use up some of my older paper collections. This one features Basic Grey Blush.

Fantastic Day

This morning I woke up and was getting ready to go to the grocery store before it got crowded. I stopped at my computer for a minute to check my email, and saw that Jessica from Scraptastic Club had replied to the design team application I sent in last night. I opened it and was so thrilled to see that I have been accepted to their design team!

I absolutely can’t wait to begin creating for them. Jessica’s kits are just too adorable! I also really love the fact that it’s a no commitment club. You don’t even have to be a member to purchase the kits! Check out all four of the gorgeous August kits here. I will be working with this one.

It’s called He’s So Rock ‘N Roll. Isn’t that the cutest kit title ever? I can’t wait to get my hands on it. It features Crate Paper’s Static Collection.

I also have to admit that I’ve already purchased another kit from her. As soon as I saw the School Daze kit, I knew I HAD to have it. Pure cuteness! It features Crate Paper’s School Spirit collection.

The little school houses and buses on the paper are adorable, and it comes with the cutest brads too.

Learn the Hard Way

This past weekend we took the girls to get their hair cut before school started again. Jordan really wanted short hair this time and she argued with Ronnie about it all the way there. She wanted hair that looked like Dora the Explorer. I completely vetoed her having bangs, but I was willing to let her cut it that short. Ronnie wasn’t having any of it. Guess who won?

That photo was taken by Lake Pontchartrain after they got their hair cut. It had been years since Ronnie and I had been to that side of the lake so we stopped to check everything out. While we were there two huge airplanes flew over to land at the New Orleans airport. Needless to say, Brandon was just thrilled with that. I didn’t get a photo of them because they moved too quickly, but I tried! I did get this one. It just melts my heart. Aren’t they cute?

Then there’s this photo too. Saturday was a good photo day!

Somehow I even ended up in a photo. I’m sure you all know how rare that is because I am usually the one behind the camera.

Wearing jeans was not a smart wardrobe choice on Saturday. The heat index was 118! We stayed at the park for about 30 minutes before the kids started whining to go home. I don’t blame them! I didn’t know it was possible to be that hot. Ick!

The girls had their school orientation Sunday afternoon. I thought it was a bit strange to do it on the weekend, but I went to drop off their supplies. They had so much stuff I was afraid they would fall backward and be stuck there like a turtle on top of their backpacks if I’d have sent the supplies Monday morning.

As usual, there was a ton of drama with the school. Alexis’ teacher didn’t have her file and didn’t know she was supposed to have 504 accommodations. She knew nothing about her situation or her diagnosis which really upset me. She gave me her home phone number and asked me to call her that evening to explain. She was polite, and upbeat. I think she’s going to be amazing this year with Alexis. I couldn’t have been happier with her!

Jordan’s teacher was a whole other story. Jordan has been mainstreamed. Even though she has cerebral palsy she is super smart and is in “regular” classes with other kids who do not have special needs. I walked in to the classroom with her and the teacher said, “Oh, this must be Jordan.” She was not thrilled. I immediately got  the impression that she was not happy to be teaching a special needs child. She didn’t address Jordan at all. She handed me a huge pack of papers to fill out. I started asking her questions about the arrangements to meet Jordan’s needs. Not only did she not have Jordan’s file, she hadn’t read her IEP, and she only knew she was “some sort of special needs child”.

I asked her who was going to remind Jordan to go to the bathroom every 2 hours because of her overactive bladder. She said, “Oh, I don’t think I’ll be able to do that at all.” I wish I could type a tone of voice so you could hear the way she said it. SO condescending and completely disinterested. I finally told her thank you for her time, and proceeded back to the front office where I asked to speak to the principal. I told her everything that had happened, and that I was extremely disappointed with the lack of preparation. I was under the impression when we did last year’s IEP that she would have an assistant in the class room to help Jordan.

I have to give credit to the principal. She got upset too, and walked me back to discuss things with Jordan’s teacher who did the IEP last year. Her teacher from last year was horrified. She apologized profusely for the new teacher not telling me that the special needs classroom was across the hall and that I needed to go talk to them too. The new teacher was informed that she was supposed to tell me to go to the second class. At this point I was still very upset. I felt like Jordan’s new teacher had omitted that information purposefully. I feel like she thinks Jordan is an inconvenience, and if that’s the truth then she should be ashamed of herself for judging my beautiful, bright child beforehand.

The principal then walked me back to meet with the 1st grade special education teacher. When we passed the regular education class with the principal, and the new teacher saw her with me she got an astonished look on her face. Then she started stuttering and said, “I totally forgot to tell you to go over there.” I don’t believe her at all. I spoke to the special education teacher and the assistant, and they relieved all of my fears. They will be watching out for her and popping across the hall every two hours to bring her to the bathroom and help her change if she needs to. They’ll get her off of the bus, and help her carry her lunch tray. The special education teacher told me that she had discussed all of this with the regular education teacher so she DID know.

Monday morning we woke up bright and early. I got the girls up a little earlier than normal because I wanted to get some photos of them dressed up for their first day of school. Aren’t they sweet? They love each other! (For now. LOL)

This is my favorite one photo I took. They were holding hands waiting for the bus to turn around at the end of the street.

I am watching the school situation very closely with Jordan. It hasn’t improved much at all in the past two days. I have barely any contact with Jordan’s regular education teacher. The homework assignment sheet she sent home yesterday was convoluted and completely unclear. I am really worried that she’s not going to treat Jordan well. Jordan says that she likes her class, and that she’s making friends. I keep telling myself maybe the regular education teacher was just having a bad day. I really hope so. I’m really thankful that the special education teacher and assistant will be popping in and out of the classroom so much to keep an eye on Jordan.

Fresh Cut

A few weeks ago CSN Stores asked me to review another one of their products on my blog! I chose to review a food processor, because I was tired of chopping and shredding things by hand. I’m really glad I did! This is the Hamilton Beach food processor I reviewed…

It has a ten cup capacity, 4 slicing/shredding blades, 1 chopping blade, and is dishwasher safe. It’s official. I am in LOVE! One of the things I hate most about cooking is chopping things. It takes so much time, and I really can’t stand crying while chopping onions! Here is my processor in my kitchen.

My photo isn’t as glamorous as theirs! We’ve been shredding up a storm over here. I’ve put potatoes through it for home made hash browns, and I grated an entire block of cheese in about five seconds. I was seriously impressed. The processor does a great job at not leaving big chunks of food unprocessed. It’s fairly quiet, but really quick. I also love the fact that it has suction cups on the bottom to keep it in place.

Today I used it to slice cucumbers, celery, and carrots for salad. I think the kids are going to have to get used to eating more vegetables!

Clean up is a snap too. Everything is wide enough to get your hands into, and if you don’t want to wash it by hand you can put it into the dishwasher. You really can’t beat that! I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a quality food processor that isn’t too expensive.

Bright Sunshiny Day

This past Saturday we went to my grandparent’s house. Jordan has informed me that my grandparent’s are farmers because they have animals and they grow things. I have to agree with her! My grandma has always had a love for animals, and an outrageous green thumb.

We got down there extremely early, and my grandma had coffee waiting for me. (Yep. She’s awesome!) My Mom picked up my niece and one of my nephews and came down as well. It has been quite hot lately, so my grandma had a sprinkler ready for the kids to play with. Now, it wasn’t just any sprinkler. It was a HUGE golf course sprinkler that was taller than the kids.

Before I share any photos, I should say that I neglected to realize that Miss Jordan got my camera out of my purse and changed the settings again! Not realizing this, I snapped away. When I loaded them onto my computer after I got home it was a nightmare! I had some type of halo on the majority of the photos. It turned out she’d switched it to underwater settings. Thank goodness for Photoshop! It took me ages to edit these.

Before the kids went in the sprinkler, they had to visit the goats! In this photo my grandma is leading the kids around the pen like the Pied Piper. It totally makes me smile.

This is my nephew Christian. He was herding goats or dirt. I’m not sure which!

Then the kids went to play in the sprinkler. Pure heaven!

Then my grandma pulled out the bubble guns that they bought. Christian got the worst of it. At one point, his hair was so full of bubbles the girls were able to lather it. Poor kid!

Payback! Christian got his own bubble gun to get the girls back, but he couldn’t figure out how to work it! (Alexis was wearing my grandma’s shirt because I forgot to bring them a change of clothes. I’m not a Boy Scout and I wasn’t prepared!)

After that, there were bubbles to blow old school style.

The boys did a little better with that, but I think they spilled more bubbles than they blew.

Jordan stuck to her bubble gun. She shot me, Mom, and Maw Maw after she finished coating Christian.

At some point, a water gun was provided as well. Brandon thought, “What can I do with this?”

He came up with something. I don’t think Alexis B. was too pleased with his idea! She said, “Hey kid!” “Quit shooting me in the butt!”

Then we turned on the other water hose to refill the water gun, and Christian commandeered it. How cute is this?!

Of course his big sister had to take a turn too! Boy is she sassy! She’s 7 going on 17 I swear.

After a while, the kids got too hot. So we walked around and visited Maw Maw’s garden before we went in and changed them. Jordan was really excited to eat grapes right off of the vine.

We also came home with green onions to plant, cucumbers to eat, and a gourd to hollow out and make into a bird house. It was a wonderful trip, and a much needed rest for me.

Saturday night after we got home Jordan spiked a fever. I was really glad that she didn’t get sick while we were at my grandma’s. She would’ve been so bummed not to be able to go. Her temperature got up to 103 at times, and I brought her to the doctor first thing on Monday. It was an unexplained virus. She didn’t have a runny nose or cough. She wasn’t throwing up. It was the weirdest thing. They tested for strep throat and everything. She is finally doing better today.

I got a phone call from the girl’s bus driver this morning. She was telling me what time they will be picked up on Monday. They have a meet and greet meeting on Sunday at the school with their new teachers. I can’t believe that the Summer is already over!

Tonight was Alexis’ fun meet and she got a gold medal in her Platinum level gymnastics. We are all so proud of her, and most of all she’s proud of herself! That’s always an awesome thing! It’s important for her to have things that she’s good at. I find that gymnastics has been a very positive influence on her.

I was going to post layouts too, but this post has turned into an absolute book. So, I will share those next time. I also have the review of my awesome new food processor coming up!
