Little Black Dress

If you’re looking for the Counterfeit Kit blog hop please scroll down or click here.

I had a great scrappy day yesterday! I got to spend some time creating with my Scraptastic Club December kit. I ended up creating four pages. They were all made with the "Little Black Dress" kit and add on. Jessica outdid herself with this kit. It's just lovely! Here are the pages that I created…

1: My 2 Boys

Journaling: Ronnie + Brandon cuddling in the recliner.

I thought it would be fun to thread brads through the centers of the flowers in the lace.

My design on this page was inspired by Creative Scrappers Sketch #156.

2: Me & You

This photo is super special to me because Ronnie and I don't get to go out together often. It's a cruddy hold-the-camera-out-with-one-arm photo, but it says a lot about us so I treasure it!

Again, I used my Scraptastic Club December kit and add on called "Little Black Dress" to create this page. It's not my usual style but I had a blast challenging myself and thinking outside of my box.

Journaling: We celebrated our tenth anniversary at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi, MS. -Jan. 2011

3. When It Rains

Another page with my December Scraptastic Club kit and add on. Did I mention that I loved it to bits? I’m kinda sad that I only have scraps left now.

On this page, I thought it would be fun to scatter punched dots of paper to mimic drops of water on my design. I also used two colors of mist for the same reason. It's different but I like how it turned out!

I journaled all around the edges of the page. My kids have been fighting a lot lately so that's where the journaling came from. Can't we all just get along? Sheesh!

Journaling: When it rains and life gets you down remember that you can always rely on your family. Friends may come and go but your family will always be here for you. Treasure your siblings and try to get along because they're like built in best friends! July '10

4. The Best Day EVER

This is my favorite page out of the four I made today. It was inspired by Liz Chidester's sketch #133. Of course, I used my Scraptastic Club kit and add on called "Little Black Dress". When I saw the sticker word art I thought of this photo immediately because it was what Alexis said after she was done washing Kody!

Journaling: Oct. '11 Alexis finally got her wish. She begged to give Kody a bath and today Erin let her. It was so sweet.

*This has been a BUSY blog week. Are you all sick of me yet?

Driving The Kids Crazy

*Note: If you’re looking for the Counterfeit Kit blog hop please scroll down or click here.

Thanksgiving was an adventure again this year. My kids took turns getting sick for the entire week before we were supposed to go down to my grandparents’ house. Everyone was well all day Wednesday so we got to go on Thursday morning. We drove for two hours to get to Port Sulphur, Louisiana. Most of my family was there and we did the usual redneck (FUN) stuff at our celebration.

My Maw Maw’s goats recently went through a population explosion. There were five babies born in the last month! Unfortunately, one of them passed away. The kids spent most of the day chasing the four remaining babies. They even caught a few with the help of the adults. I love this picture of my nephew trying to decide whether he wants to pet the baby goat or not.

Brandon didn’t have any second thoughts. He wanted to hold one and he was keeping me company in begging Ronnie to bring one home. Ronnie was not moved by our pleas and our backyard is still goatless. He’s a spoil sport!

My grandparents’ always let the kids name the goats. Alexis named this baby “Whinny”. My grandma was just happy that she didn’t have to go with Jordan’s suggested name for this baby: “Quetzalcoatlus”.

Jordan ended up naming her goat Tripp and Brandon named his Junior. Jordan and Tripp were posing together in the photo below but Tripp got away. Jordan said, “Hey Mom!” “Tripp is an escape goat.” That child cracks me up daily! I should mention that Tripp is her best friend’s last name. That was her inspiration.

My nephew warmed up to the goats rather quickly. In no time, he was hugging, petting, and even kissing the goats. (I know, Eww!) I snapped a photo right at kissing time and it looks a bit like he’s trying to eat the baby goat. Poor kid!

We did the required walk up the levee to see the river. I love photos like this when my three kids get along. Sigh. The sky was so blue that it almost looked fake. It was a beautiful day to be outside!

Jordan didn’t want to roll down the levee with Brandon and Alexis so I showed her some “touch me not” plants. I don’t know if that’s the official name but that’s what we always called them when we were little. They are little fern-like plants and when you brush your fingers over them they close. She spent quite a while touching and watching. Country entertainment at it’s finest!

Another big attraction at my grandparents’ house is the golf cart. The kids beg us to drive them around on the base of the levee so we pack on as many children as we can and off we go! This was only my second time driving. It made me a little nervous but I didn’t lose any kids. Yay me!

I always love going to Port Sulphur! I have so many happy memories there and I consider my grandparents’ house my first home.

As you can imagine, I haven’t been scrapbooking much with the traveling and preparations for the holidays in full swing. I plan to remedy that today because the kids are all back in school. I do have two digital pages and one reader’s page to share before I get to work.

2: It Snowed

Journaling: Frosty toes and snowy dimples were the order of the day when we got a freak snowstorm. What a chilly surprise for a Southern Louisiana family! Brrr...

Sketch 7

Hi everyone! I'm here to share a freebie with you on the busiest shopping day of the year. Happy Black Friday! I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving too. As usual, I have a sketch and layered digital template to share. I based this sketch on a paper page that I made earlier this month. Feel free to right click on the image then click on "Save As" to save the sketch to your computer for later use.

This is the page I used as inspiration. I chose the photo because the retro colors in the blanket worked so well with the Scraptastic Club "Home Sweet Home" kit.

I also had time to create a digital example this month. I changed my design a bit and used a plain strip of paper instead of the diamond fussy cut edge. The template contains the original diamond edge. Click here for supply credits.

Here's the link to the free, layered template for my digital girls. I hope you enjoy it!

Adventures In Hippotherapy

I recently got to see Jordan ride her horse. I usually go with Lexie and Ronnie goes with Jordan. Lexie had last weekend off so we all watched Jordan. (Their lessons occur at the same time every Saturday.) Jordan is getting so big and I couldn't believe how many new skills she's added. She adores hippotherapy and especially loves her horse Kit Kat.

It was incredibly cold that morning so she was dressed in layers. She had on two pairs of pants, two long sleeved shirts, and a jacket. She took off the jacket once she warmed up. Riding can be hard work! She really enjoyed riding in the pasture instead of the arena because of the additional sunshine.

I even got some video of Missy Prissy trotting. That’s her favorite part of riding. She’s got a lot of her Daddy in her… she likes to go fast!

In this photo, the instructor was trying to teach her how to dismount correctly. She almost got it! Kit Kat is so patient. Jordan can get a bit wiggly and she just ignores it and goes where they ask. I think Kit Kat’s favorite part of the lesson is the treat after it ends.

Here’s the hippotherapy audience! See? I told you it was cold. We had to break out the big puffy jackets. I only got to take one photo with my iPhone before Mr. Angry Birds confiscated it to keep himself entertained.

After she finished riding, we met Jordan’s new friend at the park. Jordan saw her at school and decided she was going to be friends with her and told her Momma that she should call me so we could set up a play date. (I’m leaving her friend’s name out because I don’t have permission to use it.) She even wrote her a note about being friends and included my phone number. Being the awesome Momma I am… we scheduled the play date as soon as we could!

We have a wonderful playground here in our town that’s accessible to special needs children. I can’t tell you what a blessing that’s been to Jordan over the years. They even have wheelchair ramps up onto the equipment and everything is wide enough for the chair to fit!

Jordan loves the see saw and having her new friend on it with her was a dream come true. She had been planning and imagining the play date for a week. They ran all over the playground together and Jordan was exhausted by the time everything was over.

She was definitely exhausted but happy. After all, it was a very adventurous day!

Giving Thanks!

I know I was a bit vague at the end of my last post about Brandon’s possible health issues. It almost as if I felt that giving the doctor’s suspicions a voice meant it would be true. He had been throwing up off and on in the middle of the night and complaining of headaches. One minute he would be sleeping peacefully, and the next he would be vomiting everywhere. This went on for about two weeks with four total episodes. At first we were sure that he had a stomach virus, but as things kept getting worse I got worried. I brought him to the pediatrician and she said that throwing up like that is a big sign of a pediatric brain tumor.

I couldn’t breathe for a full minute after she told me. After all, my Mom had a brain tumor. Even though they said it wasn’t a genetic type of tumor, my first thought was that doctors don’t know everything. They scheduled an MRI and we waited two days for the appointment. My Mom came up to help me with Brandon and it’s a very good thing she did because he absolutely refused to go to sleep on the medication they gave him. He was scared and I’m sure he was picking up on how stressed I was. He finally went to sleep when the MRI tech let my Mom come in. The MRI went by very quickly. I’ll be honest and say that I prayed the entire time and watched him like a hawk. I was scared he would wake up and be terrified. Thankfully, he didn’t and we were able to tote his little sleepy self home in the van.

The next day we anxiously waited for news. We didn’t hear anything until about three in the afternoon and I can tell you that it was the longest day ever! I was in an appointment when the pediatrician’s office called and told me his MRI was clear. I started crying in sheer relief. It was like a weight had been lifted off of my shoulders. They decided that he has really bad acid reflux and they’ve put him on Prevacid. I can handle that. It’s much, much better than the alternative! Thank you all for your prayers and thoughts. I just know that they made a difference. I didn’t want to leave everyone wondering about what happened so as soon as everything settled down a bit I came to post!

*I also have some scrappy news to be grateful about. Don’t forget to check out the Free Holiday Class over at Jessica Sprague’s site. It looks absolutely awesome! I’ve already signed up. I hope to see you there!

While you are there, check out their newest designer! It’s Becky Higgins and she is offering the entire Project Life series in digital format.

3. Waiting For Santa

One year Jordan wanted to wait under the Christmas tree until Santa came. I had to take a photo of her waiting for him, but eventually we settled for leaving him a letter. This is what she said...

Journaling: Dear Santa, All I want for Christmas is a baby doll and a Pablo. I know I didn't sit on your lap again this year. To be honest, you still scare me a little. Love, Jojo December 2008

4. Alligator Mississippienis Habitat

This layout was totally inspired by Jennifer Barksdale's layout called "Jealous" on page 90 of the December 2011 issue of Scrapbooks Etc.! I loved her design. I did make some changes once I got my photos out and discovered they wouldn't work the same way hers did.

I used my November "Autumn Splendor" kit and add on from Scraptastic Club to create this page.

Alligator Mississippienis is the scientific name for the American Alligator.

Journaling: October 2010 We spent the day at Fountainbleau Park in Mandeville, La. We hiked back to see the alligator habitat. It was a long hike but seeing the alligators was worth it. They were too far away to get decent pics! (I did get a pic of a slippery snake. Eww!)

Please note that the green bling, and ribbon were not in the kit. They were older pieces from my stash.

*Stay tuned tomorrow for a post about Jordan’s hippotherapy adventures! I’ve been neglecting my blog a bit and I need to get back into the swing of things.

Sketch/Template 6 Freebie

Hi everyone! I'm back to share another sketch/template with you. This sketch is based on a page that I made earlier this month. The idea for the diamond shaped edge came from the pretty diamond pattern in the Crate Paper Farmhouse collection. Feel free to right click on the sketch and then click "save as" to save the sketch for later use.

Here's the paper example page that I created. See what I mean about the diamond patterned paper? I used old photos of me and my brother. We were such camera hams! All of the supplies for this page came from the November Scraptastic Club kit and add on.

I also made a digital page with the layered template. I used the new Pink Paislee digital supplies from Jessica Sprague's website and some fun photos of my kids on the zip line at the pumpkin patch.

I didn't forget the digital girls! Here's the link to the free layered digital template that I created in Photoshop Elements.

I used the Home Sweet Home kit and add on from Scraptastic Club to create this page.

*I will try to be back on Wednesday with a post and an update. Brandon has been having some health issues and we are coping as well as we can while we wait for some tests. If God doesn’t give you more than you can handle… let’s just say he must think I’m Superwoman.
