Do You Remember The Time? (Scraptastic Club)

Happy Sunday to you! I'm back to share my latest project with the fabulous Scraptastic Club August "Barn Door" kit, add on, and stamp add on. You already know how much I'm loving this kit full of neutral goodness, so let's jump right in! I decided to scrap these photos of my daughter and my nephew blowing bubbles. My nephew was having a hard time figuring everything out, so Jordan volunteered to help him. I hid and snapped these photos so they wouldn't look away from what they were doing. It was too cute to see the intense level of concentration on their faces.

I used three strips of paper that I cut into banner shapes for the background. The whole page design was formed around that choice. I wanted to be able to showcase a few of the different patterned papers without the layout becoming too busy.

DoYouRememberTheTimeHeatherLandryWEB

I chose to put the title on solid grey paper so I could use one of the stamps from the stamp add on to create an interesting border. I also layered several scalloped borders that I punched from my scraps, and I placed a journaling spot just above them. I added a chipboard butterfly that I popped up with foam tape. The center of the butterfly's body is black and white twine from the kit.

DoYouRememberTheTimeD2HeatherLandryWEB

I cut several hearts out of the heart patterned paper and adhered them to my page. I added rub on stars near or on top of the hearts, and I topped them with bling. I decided that the hearts still looked too plain, so I added the liquid pearls that came as the additional goody this month. I love the extra bit of shimmer and definition it adds.

I have a few layouts that I’ve completed lately to share. I made this first page with a birthday theme specifically for the blog hop.

1: Baby Doll Birthday

BirthdayHopBabyDollBirthdayHeatherLandryWEB

So... Jordan's pretty much spoiled rotten. One day she came up and asked me to bake a cake. I didn't really feel like it, so I said "cakes are for birthdays". A few minutes later, she came back and said, "Well, it's my baby doll's birthday." LOL I couldn't resist. I baked the baby doll a cake. I love the mischievous look on Jordan’s face in the photo. Little stinker! I used the August Scraptastic Club "The Story Begins" kit, and add on to create this page.

2: We Are Not Chicken!

WeAreNotChicken!WEBHeatherLandry

I also used the August "The Story Begins" kit and add on from Scraptastic Club to make this page. Jordan used to be really afraid of the chickens at my grandma's house until she saw a baby chicken. She wasn't too chicken to pet the baby! I used arrows to draw attention to the tiny chick in the photo.

3. Hey Jealousy

HeyJealousyWEBHeatherLandry

Again, I used my August Scraptastic Club kit and add on called "The Story Begins" to create this page. I focused on the teal and the pink in the kit to make this layout. It's a tradition that the girls fight over who is going to be the boss when we visit my grandparents' house. On this visit, my niece wanted to dance by herself and Jordan decided to help her. As you can see, she was NOT thrilled with that at all.

You can find the letter that you’re searching for below.

The Sampler Challenges: Card Sketch #2

Did you all remember to watch for the card sketch this month? This is my second sketch for The Sampler. I made this one for the August challenges. (I’ve also created a matching digital freebie. If you want it, scroll down!) I hope this sketch inspires you. If it does, don’t forget to link your creation on their blog! You’ll be entered to win a sampling of products from The Sampler.

HL_CardSketch_Template 2Prv

I used the sketch as inspiration for the card below. I loved the warm colors in the August “All Gussied Up” kit. It feels like Summer! I’m calling this one a congratulatory card, but I think it would work well as an everyday card too.

20FlyingHighHeatherLandryWEB

I also made a digital template from the sketch to give away to my hybrid card making friends. This is my example card. I used a paper pack and embellishments by Dani Mogstad. Please don’t try to print the example card. It’s extremely low resolution and it won’t work! You can download the template here.

IndependenceDayHeatherLandryWEB

Holly created an amazing sketch for The Sampler’s layout challenge. I’m sharing what she made here, but please link any pages that you make with it on The Sampler’s blog.

AugustSketch

This was my take on Holly’s sketch. It features a photo of my gorgeous niece that I took when we went fishing. The journaling is all about how she did on our fishing trip with my grandpa. I used the August Sampler kit called “All Gussied Up” to make this page. I used watercolors from my stash to paint a journaling spot.

20HeatherLandryWonderfulYou

I also have a few digital pages to share with you as well. I’m assigned to Nancie Rowe Janitz this month and I’ve really had a wonderful time playing with her products.

This first page is about Jordan’s mixed feelings about her new braces. She really loves the dinosaur patterned straps that she picked, but she would REALLY prefer not to have to wear them! Credits here.

13MixedFeelingsHeatherLandryWEB

I love the photo on this next page so much. I always say Miss Jordan is spoiled rotten, but this photo proves it. When she complained that her wet hair made her cold after her bath, Ronnie went out and bought a blow dryer so he could dry it for her. See? Rotten! Credits here.

That’s all for now, but I’ll be back with another update soon!

Two Of A Kind (Scraptastic Club)

I'd like to share my latest project with everyone. I used the Scraptastic Club August kit and add on called “Barn Door” to create this page about a sleepover my daughter had with a friend. It was a complete giggle fest! They really are two of a kind. It's funny to see Lexie interact with her friends because they get so silly.

TwoOfAKindHeatherLandryWEB

I trimmed the photos into 4x4 squares before matting them on kraft paper. The kraft paper makes them stand out against the grey cardstock. (At first, the black & white photos were blending into the design entirely too much.)

I added several different heart embellishments to pull in the hearts from the background paper. The group of three paper hearts was printed on one of the die cut cards, but I fussy cut them to add to my design. The clock embellishment is a nod to the fact that I was still looking at the clock waiting for them to go to bed around that time. Sleepovers are fun, but no one actually sleeps during sleepovers. LOL

TwoOfAKindD2HeatherLandryWEB

Here is a closer look at the journaling so you can read it! As you can see, I added black Stickles to the tops of the wooden heart embellishments that were included in the kit. I also wanted to use the date as a prominent element, so I added the brown alphabet stickers to document the year in the corner of the journaling spot.

Sketch & Template Freebie #23

Good morning everyone! I have another sketch and free digital template to share. Please feel free to pin it, or save it to your computer for later use.

HL_Sketch_Template 23Prv

The sketch was based on this scrapbook page that I made with the Scraptastic Club August 2012 Barn Door kit, add on, and mask add on. I decided to use ALL of the banners on the die cut banner sheet on one page. Brandon wasn’t interested in going to bed in his new big boy bed at all. He informed me that he “wasn’t sleepy”. (Stinker!)

GoodnightSonHeatherLandryWEB

My design team made some amazing examples. I love my MMD Divas so much. They do a great job showing that you can use the sketches in so many different ways.

April Walker made this soft, sweet layout with an amazing ledger background. The pink butterflies really pop, and I adore the fact that she used two different colored mists.

AprilWalker These Faces

Sharon Fritchman decided to use a large square as the center of her page instead of a circle. The tiny date made of patterned paper is a really fantastic idea! It adds a lot of detail, and the colorful paper choices really make this layout shine.

SharonFritchman

The whimsical cameras on Marlene Murphy’s layout make this page completely fun. I love the use of the stamps on top of the black and white paper. This project just screams happy to me. Did you see the coins in the upper right corner? Too cool!

Marlene Murphy

Mitra Pratt’s layout is warm and  homey. The large pink flowers set the photo off so well, and I think it’s awesome that she managed to add extra photos to the design. Her use of embellishments is stunning as always!

Mitra Pratt

This page was sent in by Lesley Walker. She added a large scalloped circle under the banners and I think it looks fantastic! The rounded corners on the background really draw your eye to the journaling, and her grandson is too cute for words.

LesleyWalker

Melissa Birlem extended the journaling near the outside edges of the photo. Her design choice really makes the bright colors on the banners pop! I love the extracted catfish, and I’m wishing I’d have caught that whopper so I could have him for dinner tonight.

Melissa Birlem

Last but not least, I also made a digital example layout. I scrapped about something I always tell my kids. I want them to know that life can be tough, but it is truly possible to bloom where you are planted. Click here for credits.

If you’re a digital scrapbooker and you’d like to download the layered digital template freebie that I created in Adobe Photoshop Elements, you can download it here. Please respect my TOU.

Having A Ball

Time for another photo update!  Things are even busier than normal here. We signed Brandon up for football at the very last minute. He really enjoyed tee ball, so we asked a few months ago if he wanted to play football. He said that he didn’t want to because he didn’t want to get hurt. We dropped the topic until I talked to his tee ball coach and she said her son (Brandon’s friend) would be on the same team. I showed Brandon a photo of his friend in football equipment and he decided to sign up.

5x7Football

We made a trip to Academy to buy football supplies. I’m just gonna say it… football is WAY more expensive than tee ball. It was $55 to sign up and he gets a jersey for that. I had to buy a helmet for $60, pads for $60, and cleats for $60. I still have to buy practice pants and game pants for $40. I also have to get a physical before Monday and that’s another $50. Holy moly! We also signed Jordan up to cheer at his games. That cost $55, but her uniform was provided. I just had to buy $20 uniform shoes. That’s a grand total of $400!

_MG_1218

It’s all worth it though. He had his first practice yesterday in 100 degree heat for an hour and a half. He came home SOAKED in sweat. I was worried that he wouldn’t like it, but he had a blast. He has practice again tonight. They are very, very serious about football in the South. Even for five year olds!

Here he is practicing his “mean” football face. I think he looks more irritated than mean. This photo totally cracks me up. It will definitely end up in my scrapbook.

_MG_1217

In other news, the girls were REALLY happy about going back to school last week. Can you tell? I took these photos on the first day of school while we waited for the bus. They get to ride the same bus this year and they are happy about that at least.

_MG_1235

Jordan did not want to go to school at all. She was very down and depressed. She told the bus driver, “I’m going into third grade and my Mommy says it’s gonna be alright.” I kept trying to cheer her up so I could get her to smile for a photo. In the end, I had to settle for this photo where she wouldn’t even look at me. My poor baby!

_MG_1243

Alexis really wanted Jordan to smile too. She reached over and made her smile. I was laughing so hard, I almost couldn’t take the photo. My girls are so silly!

_MG_1254

I got a few photos of Alexis by herself when Jordan still refused to cooperate. She loves to pose and be a diva with all of her modeling moves. I bet you can tell that her favorite color is purple. Purple backpack, headband, glasses, and shoes!

_MG_1258

In this photo, I asked her how she thought school would go this year. You can see the wheels turning. I’m hoping that this year will be much better than last year. She did end up passing the LEAP test and she moved to 5th grade. Her new teacher seems very organized and really interested in teaching. Here’s hoping it’ll be a lot easier for Alexis this year!

_MG_1264

This past weekend, my Mom came up for a visit. She rented a hotel room at a hotel with a indoor pool specifically so the kids could swim. We spent several hours swimming after Brandon’s football evaluations. They even had a hot tub and Jordan really enjoyed it because her muscles are always so tight.

We went out for dinner after swimming because we were all starving. Mom helped Brandon do his word search in the kiddie menu. After we finished, we headed home to get ready for church Saturday night.

We were all so exhausted on Sunday that I didn’t even attempt to clean the house. I took a well deserved break, but I’m paying for it this week as the house is a mess! Speaking of that, I should go fold clothes. Ugh.

Scraptastic Club Layout: Absolutely Fabulous

I'm back to share another Scraptastic Club project with you. Have you ever taken a photo and loved it so much that you were nervous about scrapping it? This is that photo for me. I've had it in my photo stash forever and I hadn't come across the perfect paper to use with it until I got my "Barn Door" August kit and add on from Scraptastic Club.

AbsolutelyFabulousHeatherLandryWEB

I loved the neutral colors in this kit. They work perfectly with black & white photos. The design on this page was inspired by the little wooden stars. I used a large die cut star to ground my photo. I cut more die cuts stars for accents, and I attached the little wooden stars by randomly tossing them on the page. I adhered them where they fell.

AbsolutelyFabulousD3HeatherLandryWEB

The rub on stars were very easy to apply. I placed a journaling spot on top of one of the die cut stars and I used foam adhesive to make the chipboard butterfly more dimensional. I decided not to paint the tiny wooden stars. I really loved the plain wood finish.

AbsolutelyFabulousD2HeatherLandryWEB

Here's a closer look at the title work. I chose to adhere one of the big gems in the center of the chipboard "o" to add more interest. I like to add special little details like that.

AbsolutelyFabulousD1HeatherLandryWEB

I hope you all have a happy, scrappy day!
