Smiling Colors

I have some awesome news! My friend Smitha Katti has opened an online store where you can buy printable cards. She has a wonderful, graphic style that will have you smiling from ear to ear. Here’s an example of one of her gorgeous card sets.

Happy Halloween!

I just love Halloween. It's my favorite holiday to scrap, and I look forward to Jessica's Halloween kits all year long! Of course, I totally fell in love with the Spookfest kit. I used it to make two projects to share with everyone. (I made sure to include three or more photos on each of my pages because our theme on the Scraptastic Club blog this month is multi-photo designs!)

This layout came together really quickly. I was chatting on the phone with a friend, and I found a neat sketch by Jayne from spsetc.blogspot.ca. I finished the entire page during my phone call. I love it when that happens. I used the glittery paper to make the scallops on the top and bottom stand out.

I doodled a spider web on the paper that I chose as a mat for the title because it looked a little bare. I also created the flag cluster by layering several flags. I adhered the Oct. 31 sticker on top of another journaling sticker to add a pinked border to finish my design.

BobbingWithBubbaHeatherLandryWEB

I think this next page is my favorite that I've done this month. I'm really getting the hang of stitching on my projects. I loved the cassette tape die cut so much. It reminds me of way back when we used cassette tapes with spooky noises on Halloween to scare our friends at parties. I wonder if they have things like that on CD now? Or even MP3? Now I feel old!

This layout was inspired by a Page Drafts sketch. I changed it a little to suit my photos. I tend to take photos that fill a full 4x6 print, so cropping them smaller generally doesn't happen. I have to work harder on not zooming in so much when I take pictures so I can scrap layouts with smaller photo sizes. I’ve got to learn to leave room to crop after they are printed!

Frozen Football

The Covington 5/6 Saints played in Slidell last Saturday. When we woke up it was very cold outside. (Especially when you consider the fact that we had to be outside for several hours.) We dressed the kids as warmly as possible. Jordan wore tights and a turtleneck under her cheer uniform. I put thermals under Brandon’s uniform and they all wore jackets. I also brought a blanket for the kids to cover with when they took their breaks.

Ronnie was asked to volunteer at the game. He didn’t really mind, but he missed talking to Brandon and encouraging him from the sidelines. I was left managing Brandon and Jordan. It was hard! They are both so busy. (You know it’s cold when Ronnie’s wearing a jacket.)

IMG_2412

I snapped a photo of this motley crew before the game began. These girls all have a brother on the 5/6 Saints and they sit on the sidelines every Saturday. They are all good sports about it and they hang out with one another.

DSC_0191

I love my zoom lens so much! (Have I mentioned that in the last five minutes?) It’s a lot of fun to be able to see the action up close. Brandon really loves looking back at the photos that I take. We had a little talk about the whole face mask thing again.

IMG_2386

He blocked two kids at the same time twice in this game. He’s still a little worried about going out on the field sometimes after a hard hit, but he’s really coming into his own. He’s starting to use his size to his advantage.

IMG_2387

Jordan and her friend Bella are the only cheerleaders that haven’t given up. All of the other girls have quit coming. We’ve recruited some other girls from the sidelines when we can. It makes me a bit sad because most of the other teams have a bunch of cheerleaders.

IMG_2364

Remember what I said about hard hits? Brandon was blocking two other kids when he got slammed from behind unexpectedly by the kid that’s on top of him. It was an audible hit. I heard it from the sidelines and cringed. He got teary eyed and the coach sent him off the field to me. I gave him a big hug. I am so proud of him for playing football!

I will be back soon with some scrapbook projects. I have a few digital pages completed!

Other People’s Kids

This past Friday I was a chaperone at the pumpkin patch. It was ridiculously hot and the kids were all whiny and fussy. It’s hard to want to play in a hay maze when you’re sweating so much that the hay sticks to you like glue. We tried to make the best of things, but we mostly just slogged through until lunch when they could get something to drink.

_MG_2269

I took a quick second to snap this photo of an open cotton pod. I found the mix of textures interesting. Each of the kids got to pick a bit of cotton to bring home. The pods are actually pretty sharp so they had to be careful.

_MG_2270

I always find chaperoning field trips very interesting. It’s neat to see how Brandon interacts with the other kids and I like watching them have fun. They only thing I don’t like is when the kids don’t listen. I really, really dislike having to fuss at other people’s kids. It just makes me uncomfortable!

_MG_2277

I didn’t shoot many photos because I was too busy chasing the kids. The few I got were when they finally sat down for a minute. Brandon’s favorite part of the field trip was getting his face painted. When he came home, the pumpkin was transferred onto his shirt. I asked him what happened and he said that he slept really well during nap time and the pumpkin just came off.

_MG_2312

Stay tuned tomorrow for a football update and some whining about how cold it was for the football game. Friday was swelteringly hot and Saturday was COLD. I wish Mother Nature would make up her mind. Speaking of weather, I hope everyone in the path of Sandy stays safe!

Twigs And Berries

The kids weren’t quite ready to go back to school yesterday, but they had serious cabin fever. We had to drop by the schools to pick up their missed school work, and we stopped to take a brief walk on a local nature trail just to get outside for a little while.

Everyone thought it was a great idea to walk in the leaves and twigs until they actually started doing it. Apparently flip flops and sandals aren’t approved nature walk footwear. (I was wearing heeled flip flops and I didn’t have a problem. I think the girls were being a bit whiny because they weren’t all the way well yet.)

_MG_2241

Here’s a photo of the three of them on one of the bridges. I made them hold hands. Alexis looks like I’m attempting to kill her by making her spend time with her brother and sister. “Ack! They’re touching me!”

_MG_2238

By the end of our little trip, the only child who wasn’t throwing a fit was Brandon. We stopped really quickly on the way back to the van to snap this photo of him in some tall grass just because I thought it would be pretty. I mean manly. Yes, very manly.

_MG_2253

I don’t have any scrapbook pages to share because my sick children have demanded all of my time and energy. Tomorrow’s not looking good either! I have to chaperone a field trip. It will be okay though. Field trips = photo opportunities.

Never Can Say Goodbye

October 1st was the one year anniversary of our dog’s passing. We miss Lady every single day. I swear, sometimes I think I still hear her snoring when I wake up in the middle of the night. The kids have tried to convince us to get another dog, but Ronnie isn’t budging one bit. He doesn’t want another one. I finally scrapped one of the photos that I took of her with the kids on the day we had to say goodbye.

1. Never Can Say Goodbye

NeverCanSayGoodbyeWEBHeatherLandry

I'm working my way through some older supplies. I used my July 2012 kit from The Sampler Kit Club called "Summer Camp" to make this page. It took me a year to be able to scrap this photo.

I was inspired by the left side of Kim Watson's "Havin' A Merry Christmas" layout on page 29 of the November/December 2011 issue of Creating Keepsakes.

2: Happiness Is… This Boy!

HappinessIsThisBoyHeatherLandryWEB

I absolutely love these photos of Brandon. He fell asleep while he was eating breakfast. Layouts like this are really what it's all about to me. I love remembering when my kiddos were smaller.

I used a sketch from Scrapbook Trends as well as my Blue Skies kit and add on from Scraptastic Club to create this layout.

Slammed Saturday

Saying this past Saturday was busy would be an incredible understatement. Brandon woke up with a headache, but he wanted to play football anyway. My in-laws came over to the house and we all drove to the game. Jordan couldn’t cheer due to having her adenoids out so she rested on the sidelines.

IMG_2169

Brandon went in for one play and he got tackled HARD. See the kid in the gold jersey on the ground with a knee on his head? That’s him. He came off of the field with his head hurting even worse. He wanted to stay and watch the game so he sat on the sidelines with Ronnie. The game ended in a tie and we all went out to lunch.

IMG_2173

After lunch was over, we drove to our local pumpkin patch only to discover that the patch was closed. It looked like a ghost town! My father-in-law was determined to buy pumpkins for the kids so we stopped at the grocery store on the way home.

My in-laws went home after spending an hour at our house visiting with the kids. The girls asked me if I would take their photos because they were dressed really adorably for the pumpkin patch. We went outside to snap a few portraits before I had to get ready to teach the Saturday children’s special needs class at church.

Miss Jordan has pretty sparkly brown eyes and her shirt really made them pop. I love catching those lovely little lights in her eyes.

_MG_2194

Alexis loved the fact that her clothes matched Jordan’s. I caught pretty lights in her eyes too. Her eyes are such a dark brown that they’re almost black. Really gorgeous!

5x7Fall

We headed to a slumber party after I taught at church. Jordan’s friend Bella had a birthday and we had a blast celebrating with her family. It was Jordan’s first time sleeping out and as you can tell by the photo below, she had an amazing time!

285672_3436840979736_806840938_n

The girls didn’t go to sleep until three in the morning and I’m still making up for my sleep deficit. Thank goodness Bella’s Mom and I are good friends. We were able to keep ourselves entertained while the girls were up. Like I said… Saturday was CRAZY!

Boo To You!

Remember how I said that we were heading to the pediatrician’s office this morning? Well, the verdict is in. We all have the flu except Ronnie. I swear that man is a tank. I’d kill to have his immune system! We’re all taking our Tamiflu like good little boys and girls and I’m keeping myself occupied with a little digital scrapbooking when I feel like up to it.

Speaking of digital scrapbooking, have you seen the new Ghoul's Night Out kit by Dani Mogstad? It is so much fun! I love the purple and pink touches in a Halloween kit. It's perfect for scrapping spooky little girls like mine. Sure, I love Alexis’ sweet pose but it’s the scary one that makes me smile.

Well, that’s all for me tonight. My meager energy supply is all gone again. Plus, my days and nights are all mixed up due to all of the napping. I’m going to try to get some sleep.

Stand Up And Get Crunk?

Brandon had another football game last Saturday. I swear, football is the only thing we do lately. It was an away game in Pearl River at the Sixth Ward Jr. High. We arrived right on time and we were welcomed by loud music highlighted by lots and LOTS of cursing. Oh lovely! Jordan and Brandon looked at me and said, “Oooh Mommy we don’t listen to music with curse words!” The worst part is that the announcers were the ones playing the music over the loudspeakers. I might be getting old, but I found it completely inappropriate for a football game for five year olds. I mean. Really!?

Brandon got to be a team captain at this game. He went out on the field and got to call the coin toss. He said it was the best part of the game. This was my first time using my zoom lens to catch closer photos of the action. Let me tell you… I am in LOVE!

IMG_2087

My boy is really picking up this football thing. The kid he’s blocking was easily 6-8 inches taller. I wish the coaches would pay more attention to him in practice. They have favorites, and they just so happen to be their own kids. Not very surprising, but still. It stinks when Brandon mentions that he wishes they would play him more. He really wants to learn.

IMG_2101

In the photo below, he’s blocking two kids at once! Unfortunately, they ended up losing the game. The team they played against was TOUGH. They knocked the goodness our of our boys. We had several kids come crying back to the bench. Brandon got knocked down once, but he was more mad than sad. He gets frustrated when he doesn’t tackle the kid from the other team.

IMG_2105

I love this photo. A few of the boys had thrown their arms around each others’ shoulders. Brandon’s friend Zack is facing him and talking to him. I took this shot from the bleachers. That telephoto lens is amazing!

IMG_2146

Good sportsmanship is what it’s all about. We always high five the other team when the game is over. The boys were quite bummed about losing, but they need to understand that you can’t win them all!

IMG_2156

I’ve got another batch of photos to edit from yesterday’s game. It was eventful to say the least. Right now I’m watching Brandon sleep. He has a high fever and has been really sick all day. Alexis and Jordan are sick too, but not as sick as he is. I’m bringing them all to the doctor’s office in the morning. They are going to LOVE me.

October 2012 Sampler Challenges

Today is challenge day over at The Sampler Kit Club. One of the challenges includes a card sketch that I made. I hope you go over there to participate. *Holly sends out awesome prize packs! (I’ve also made a corresponding digital card front freebie. Please scroll down to download if you’re a digital scrapper.)

HeatherLandrySamplerOct2012CardSketchWEB

Here is my example card. I used The Sampler October kit called Warm to make this card for a friend. I thought the custom dyed pink rose would work wonderfully as an embellishment, and I especially loved the sequins. They are so cute!

HeatherLandryOct

On this next layout, I used a sketch from Holly King at The Sampler. (It’s this month’s layout challenge. Go check it out!)

My Mom loaned me some old photos a while back and I scanned them to make copies. I’m slowly working my way through scrapbooking them. I loved the wood grain paper with the roses printed on it. I tried to design the page so that paper would peek through. Can you believe how cute I was as a baby?

Sketch/Template #26

Hello everyone! I have another sketch and digital template to share. Please feel free to pin it, or save it to your computer for later use. If you are a digital scrapbooker, please scroll down for your template freebie.

HL_Sketch_Template 26

The sketch was based on this scrapbook page that I created with the October 2012 Scraptastic Club Hall Pass kit and add on. It features some photos of my kiddos on the first day of school this year. They were so nervous and excited all at the same time.

HeatherLandryFirstDayOfSchoolWEB_1

As always, my design team made some amazing examples. I love my MMD Divas so much. They do a great job showing that you can use the sketch in many different ways.

Lesley Walker made this soft, sweet layout with an awesome scalloped circle as one of her layers. The purple paper really pops, and I adore the fact that she used these super photos of her granddaughter. She looks like quite a character!

little miss

Sharon Fritchman decided to use a lovely photo that she took when she went for a walk in her neighborhood. The way she carried the balloon embellishments through her design is fantastic! I especially love the die cut birds, and the fun cloud embellishments really make this layout shine.

Sharon Fritchman

Mitra Pratt’s project is fun and interesting all at the same time! The large punched borders set the photos off so well, and I think it’s awesome that she used a custom made flower embellishment. The fabric in it works fabulously with the theme.

Mitra Pratt

This page was sent in by Marlene Murphy. She added lovely punched borders to her design, and I think they look fantastic! The amazing photos make you wish you’d been there with her. She always does such a great job of telling a story through her work.

Marlenelas bailarinas

Nancy Keslin provided this gorgeous layout about her kids doing their school work outside. She’s lucky to have such gorgeous weather in California. It’s way too hot for that here! I love the playful feel of her page and the alpha she chose for her title work is so cool.

NancyKeslinschool time

This creative page is from Ali! She incorporated a super cute embellishment cluster near her journaling. I really admire the way she tells the story of her everyday life on her pages. The little green polka dot bow adds a lot of interest to her design.

Ali K.

Melissa Birlem sent me this detailed digital project. The puzzle pieces are a great embellishment choice and I like how she used a the obituary as a supporting detail on this incredible tribute layout.
