Here Fishie, Fishie! (A Birthday At The Aquarium)

When I came across this sketch on the Basic Grey blog, I knew I would end up using it. I loved the photo cluster and the rounded corners so I saved it for later use.

I finally got around to scrapping a page that was inspired by the sketch. I didn't copy the design exactly but you can see that the basic lines are the same. I flipped the scallop upside down and changed the photo sizes a bit. The photos felt like they were floating without something behind them, so I fussy cut some of the hexagon paper from my October 2012 Warm kit from The Sampler kit club.

Aquarium_Birthday Scrapbook Page_New Orleans Layout

The title was something that Jordan kept saying during her birthday trip to the aquarium and I just had to use it. I changed the color of the light pink foam Thickers to a deeper pink to mimic the color of the chipboard roses.

I cut one of the ribbon flowers off of the trim piece and tucked it into a cluster with the chipboard. You can also see that I used some of the stickers from the transparent Hambly set included in the kit. The sparkly silver ribbon came from the fantastic Hydrangea Hippo Etsy Store.

A Not So Scary Halloween Scrapbook Page

I've made a few scrapbook pages lately, but I haven't had time to take pictures and edit them. I got a few spare minutes yesterday, so I finally have something to post.

I really love scrapping Halloween photos. Mostly because the products that are available are so stinkin' cute! I bought a Halloween mega kit years ago from a kit club called Scrapbook Deals 4 You. I only went through about half of the kit and then I filed it away. I came across it recently and went on a search for photos to match the kit.

Here's a closer view of my title work and journaling. A bunch of the layers are popped up with pop dots! I also added some purple gems on top of some of the purple polka dots to add a little bit of shimmer.

I have another layout to share tomorrow!

I have a new SVG file to share. It's the latest in my vacation and travel series. It's a road sign and the word "go" with an arrow. We're all about going places around here. It seems like all we do is GO!

March 2013 Card Sketch + Template

I just posted the challenges over at The Sampler kit club blog earlier today. Make sure you  head over there to see the sketches and enter to win a prize! I also wanted to share the sketch here on my blog, and as always there's a coordinating digital template to download. Here's the March 2013 card sketch. Please feel free to pin it or save it to your computer for later use.

Heather Landry_Free Card Template_Digital_Sketch

This is my take on the sketch. I loved the bright, happy colors in the Walking On Sunshine kit this month. I decided to fussy cut one of the transparencies from the Uncharted Waters package. I loved it and I thought it would make a great geometric border.

I also made a page that was inspired by Holly's March layout sketch. Trust me, you don't want to miss this one! My design features an adorable photo of my newborn nephew. I can't believe he's already nearly three years old. I swear, time flies by so quickly! I used the Walking On Sunshine kit again on this project.

I've been closeted in my craft room creating like a madwoman again. I've managed to use all of my March 2013 kit from The Sampler Kit Club. It's called "Walking On Sunshine" and I am 100% smitten by the bright, happy colors. I'm sick of this dreary weather so any sunshine is welcomed, even the paper kind!

I fell in love with the Glitz transparencies that came in the kit. I knew I would use this one on a card as soon as I saw it! I designed the entire card around it. It's super simple with lots of layers and dimensional adhesive. I'm slightly addicted to foam dots. (Okay. Lots addicted!)

I've documented Brandon and Jordan's nicknames, but I couldn't remember making a page about Lexie's. I found an older photo that I took of her during a Spring portrait session and it went really well with the kit. Jordan couldn't say "sister" when she was tiny, so she called Lexie "Sissy" and it stuck. The younger kids still call her Sissy. So we have a Cookie, Bubba, and a Sissy in our family!

I used a fabulous Pagemaps sketch from Becky Fleck's site as inspiration for my design. As usual, I went off on my own tangent. Did you notice all of the gold mist? It's my absolute favorite product right now. I am having a hard time not putting it on EVERYTHING.

Big Kid: March 2013 Hydrangea Hippo Kit

I'm totally excited to be able to share the projects that I made with the fun Pack Your Bags And Scoot Hydrangea Hippo March 2013 kit. I posted them on the Hydrangea Hippo blog a few weeks ago and now I get to share them here on my blog. I knew that the kit could go with many photos that I'd taken of Brandon over the years so I was super excited to start creating.

My first project wasn't a layout, I was inspired by the canvas bag that came in the kit. Brandon's birthday was a few weeks ago and I made this bag to wrap his present.

I sprayed the bag with mists and water to create an ombre effect. The tag was sprayed with cream mist so it would coordinate with the embellishments a bit more. The little cement truck is adhered with dimensional adhesive. I attached the tag to the bag with the lovely blue ribbon that came in the kit.

Birthday Packaging_Little Boy_Canvas Bag_Ombre
I absolutely fell in love with the fire truck patterned paper, so I based my first page around it. I used a photo of Brandon falling asleep on the floor in his bedroom. He's always been such a good boy. I never had to fuss at him to go to sleep, he was always tired and cooperative after his sippy cup. I thought the truck embellishments went really well with his vehicle patterned pajamas.

Fire Truck_Scrapbook Page_Little Boy_Echo Park
My second layout features Brandon's favorite activity of all time. He absolutely loved the train table that Ronnie's sister bought the kids for Christmas one year. He would play trains all day long if I'd let him. After a while, I'd get tired of the clacking noises and I'd beg him to take a break. My favorite part of this design was my decision to use stars to add smoke to the top of the train's smoke stack.

Train Scrapbook Page_Circles_Little Boy_Echo Park
Last but not least, I created a page about Brandon's bout with a nasty upper respiratory infection. His doctor asked me to give him breathing treatments around the clock, and I was worried that he would throw a fit. I worried for nothing though because he didn't fuss once. In fact, he did a better job than Jordan does when she has to get them even now!

I used a gel medium to make the blue, starry paper look glossy. I was going for a night sky look because he was wearing his pajamas during his last treatment before bedtime.

Feeling A Bit Prickly

I’ve been sick all week. I started feeling bad Sunday night after church and I’ve spent the entire week trying to rest so I could feel better. I’ve taken naps and done breathing treatments. I promise, I’ve been a good girl!

I started feeling a bit better on Friday and the kids were out of school so we decided to venture out into nature to see what trouble we could get into. We visited the Northlake Nature Center and saw turtles swimming in the swamp. (No alligators this time!)

I brought my camera because I wanted to capture a few photos of Brandon for his six year old portraits. I swear, every time I turn around he’s grown two inches taller. Stinker!

We also saw this very prickly scene. There were several bees swarming on a very sharp, HUGE thistle plant. It was probably at least three feet tall. Jordan told me to quit taking pictures before I got stung. She had a point, I had to get really close because I had my 50mm lens on my camera. I didn’t get stung though!

We also went to Fountainbleau State Park so the kids could play in the sand. I didn’t think it would be warm enough to wade, but the kids just rolled up their pants and headed in.

Alexis loves wading in the water but she’s always willing to take a break so she can pose for a photo. I stayed on the beach because by this time my chest felt tight and I could tell I was spiking a fever again.

I let them play for a while longer and we headed home so I could take another breathing treatment. I was miserable for the rest of the night and I’ve paid for it all day as well. I guess I was wrong when I thought I was well enough to go out.

Thank You copy

SVG Freebie + Walking On Sunshine Kit

Hi everyone! I'm dropping by really quickly to share the next in my vacation/travel series of .svg file freebies. This time I have a line of arrows that will cut on a rounded rectangle. This is a great .svg to use both the positive and negative cuts!

You can download the file HERE. Please respect my terms of use! Before I go, I also wanted to share a kit that would showcase the .svg file beautifully. I got my Walking On Sunshine kit from The Sampler today and oh my gosh it's gorgeous. I'm definitely in the mood for some sunny yellow after all of the cold lately.

Pure Magic-Christmas Pages

I've been really missing my dog Lady, so I decided to scrap a page about her. I always miss her the most at Christmas since Christmas Day was her birthday. I figured a picture of her from her last Christmas on her favorite blanket would work perfectly.

Christmas Page_Death and Loss_Dog Pug_Scrapbook Page

I used my Scraptastic Club December 2012 kit called Stocking Stuffer to make this layout and I was inspired by a March 2013 PageMaps Sketch. It felt really therapeutic to write about her and how much I miss her.

While I had the kit on my desk, I felt inspired to create another page. I was on a journaling roll, but I wanted this journaling to be a bit more private.

Christmas Magic_Family Portraits_Scrapbook Page_Heather Landry

Isn't it magic how everyone can actually get along around Christmas? My journaling is basically about how I wish the peace we have around Christmas would last through the entire year. The tag in the chevron bag pulls out for the journaling. I really loved the music paper that Jessica included in the Scraptastic Club December 2012 Stocking Stuffer kit.

Brilliant Birthday Boy

March 2nd was Brandon's 6th birthday, but we didn't have a huge party because he decided to share one with Jordan. They want a Chuck E. Cheese party later in the month. I couldn't let the official day go by without doing anything, so we bought his birthday present and baked a cake. He was thrilled with his Paper Mario Wii game and he told me that his cake was delicious!

Little Boy_Candles_Birthday

We asked him to make a wish while he blew out the candles but we forgot to tell him to keep it a secret. Immediately after blowing out the candles he announced, "My wish is to live with my Momma forever and ever." My heart melted into a big pile of slush. He is just the sweetest boy on the entire planet!

Free SVG Word Art (Don't Stop Believing)

It's been a while since I offered a free .svg file. I made this one a few weeks ago with lyrics from one of my kids' favorite songs. I thought it would be fun to find a way to include it on one of their pages.

An Epic Adventure: Disney Day Five @ Animal Kingdom and Epcot

This the last post in my Disney series! We spent February 14, 2013 in the Animal Kingdom and Epcot parks. We started our morning at the Polynesian by eating a wonderful breakfast at the Kona Café. I took a photo of everyone waiting for our beeper to go off before we were seated.

After breakfast, we headed to the Animal Kingdom. We stopped to visit a Photopass Photographer so we could get a family photo taken. I have to say, this may be my favorite photo from the entire trip. We were asked to growl at the photographer. It cracks me up!

I enjoyed the scenery in the Animal Kingdom. This colorful boat really drew my eye. I wish that it hadn’t been raining because I wasn’t able to use my DSLR to take any of these photos. I didn’t have rain gear for it, and I wasn’t going to take a chance with my baby.

The girls begged to ride Expedition Everest even before we left on our trip. I was VERY worried about how Jordan would handle the ride due to her sensory issues. She did amazingly well! I took this photo while we were stopped at the top of the ride near the broken track. She looked at me and said, “Oooh Mommy, My tummy feels funny!” I got worried that she would throw up, but she told me is wasn’t funny like that… It was tickly funny. An adrenaline junkie was born on this ride!

Speaking of adrenaline junkies, Alexis loved every minute of it! She got really quiet at one point, and my brother-in-law asked her if she was okay. She was fine. She yelled her head off, and laughed like crazy!

Of course I bought the PhotoPass photos, so I was able to get this treasure. When I saw it, I died laughing! I’m hollering my head off and holding on to Jordan for dear life, Alexis looks scared half to death, Jordan looks like she’s just chilling, and Brian looks like it’s any other day. Too funny!

It was awesomely scary and fast. When it stopped, Jordan started yelling AGAIN, AGAIN! Brian and I weren’t having it. We’re too old to do that more than one time in a row. Sheesh!

My in-laws wanted to watch the Finding Nemo show after that and I was pretty grateful for a chance to sit and calm down a bit. I was WAY amped up and so were the girls.

The show was absolutely beautiful! I couldn’t get over how well the costumes coordinated with fish puppets and the music was wonderful.

We had never ridden the Triceratops ride in Dinoland, so we hit that up next! Our entire family packed into one dinosaur, the girls were in the front and the boys in the back. We let Brandon control the ride since he couldn’t ride the Expedition Everest ride. He just bumped us along the bottom since he isn’t a big fan of heights.

I guess that’s why I was so surprised when he volunteered to go on the Primeval Whirl rollercoaster. He was really nervous when it started spinning, and there was one particular part where it dropped that he looked a bit freaked out. He managed to finish it without fussing, but he immediately stated that he would never ride it again.

Speaking of never riding something again, Jordan was feeling pretty good about her success in riding Expedition Everest. When Alexis asked to go on the Dinosaur ride, I warned Jordan that it was a pretty intense ride. She insisted that she could do it and said she wasn’t afraid, so Brian and I took her with us when we went. Big mistake!

You can’t even see her in the photo above. The minute she saw the first dinosaur she flipped out and started crying. She buried her head in my lap and said, “No, no, no!” the entire time. I felt so bad for her! Even Alexis looks pretty terrified in the photo. It was a fun ride, but definitely not for Miss Jordan. I did my best to calm her down, but she wasn’t having any of it!

We took a break for lunch at the Rainforest Café after the ride. The food was good after we finally got it, but the wait time was insane. I know we spent over two hours in there!

Brandon wasn’t a big fan of the time we spent waiting so he laid down in my father-in-law’s lap and took a nap. He actually got a pretty decent nap in because we waited so long that there wasn’t anything to disturb him.

We have stopped at the Rainforest on every Disney trip we’ve ever taken, so it’s a tradition. The main reason we come is that my kids are obsessed with the Volcano dessert. Here’s Miss Jordan grinning as big as she possibly can while waiting to dig in!

We left the Animal Kingdom after lunch and headed back to the hotel so we could take the monorail to Epcot. I snapped a photo of the heathens in their ponchos waiting for the monorail to arrive.

Here it is! Did you know that each of the monorails has a different color along the bottom so they can keep track of which one is which? I learn something new every single time we go.

It was storming at Epcot, and we didn’t stay long because we wanted to be back at the Polynesian in time to watch the Magic Kingdom fireworks across the lagoon. I did manage to snap a pretty photo of Spaceship Earth.

The last thing we did in Epcot was very fitting. We finally found a place for the kids to have a character greeting with Mickey Mouse.

We got back on the monorail, and after a brief mishap (getting on the wrong monorail) we made it back to the Polynesian just in time to watch our last night of fireworks from the balcony.

The entire trip was so memorable! Everyone had a great time, and I can’t wait to scrapbook our stories. Also, I am really glad to be done with editing and blogging the photos. It took me two weeks to get through everything. I guess that’s how you know you take entirely too many pictures?
